How to pump oil through a lube gun?

Okay maybe a strange question. So my j-type OD is out of the car and I can't get the mainshaft splines to disengage. The Bently manual suggests energizing the solenoid and then pumping clean oil thru the nipple of tool L402 which has been inserted in the port just forward of the solenoid. Tool L402 looks like a big grease fitting. So how do you pump oil into such a fitting? I'm familiar with grease guns, can you use one of these somehow or is their a better alternative.

The old style grease guns I'm familiar with had a cup seal in them that could be flipped "forward" for use with hand packed grease (or oil). When the seal was folded "backwards" it could be used with pre-packaged grease cartridges.

When I have tried putting oil in grease guns (as in filling trunnions) the oil doesn't want to stay in for very long under the spring pressure of the piston. The oil just wants to keep flowing out of the tube and coupler. However, that might be because I don't own a really nice grease gun.

I got my oil gun at a marine store. They use them for outboard motors.

Now that is cool. That looks like it will be much cleaner than what I've dealt with. I'm going to have to visit the local boat store and see if they have one of those!

Gliderman that looks like a totally kluged tool, yet brilliant. I'm headed to west marine. thanks for the replys
