How to post pictures.

I see pics posted directly to the Forum. Please share
the procedure.

Right now I create a link to Photobucket because this
is the suggested way per the forum "Help," and
"Frequently Asked Questions" section. Seems a little onerous to do that.

Thanks.

Onerous? Another way is to simply upload them as attachments. using the "File Manager" link at the bottom of the edit window when you're making a post (you must be in the "full" editor to see the File Manager). That will allow you to upload pictures as attachments and if the file size of 75k or less (I think) then the pictures will show up within the post, otherwise larger files will show as links that must be clicked. But linking to a photo on a image sharing gallery, if they allow hot linking, it better because 1) it uses none of my hard drive space and 2) it uses none of my bandwidth. But either method is fine.

If you do link to an image on another server just post the entire URL to the IMAGE (don't make the common mistake of trying to link to a .htmp web page). The link must point directly at the image (end with .JPG for example) then surround the URL with the UBB Image tags like this:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Code:</div><div class="ubbcode-body ubbcode-pre" style="height: 34px;"><pre>[image]https://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthreads/images/kb_brain.jpg[/image]</pre>[/QUOTE]

Which, if I do without the special code tages looks like this:

kb_brain.jpg

You can also click the image icon in the full editor:
image.gif
then fill in the popup box with the URL to the image and it will auto-magically put the image tags around it for you.

By the way, to determine the URL of an image, right click your mouse over the image and look at "properties".

Hope this helps,

Basil

I'll do Bas one better. You're using photobucket right? Look at a picture on your photobucket site. Click here for an example. At the bottom-right corner of the page you'll see something that says "IMG CODE - Forums and bulletin boards". Just copy the link they give you to your message here in the forum and the image will show up. Easy.

PS: Even though Basil said to use the tag "IMAGE" you can use the "IMG" tags that photobucket puts around the picture. They both work.

I do exactly as aerog says, I use the "IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards" copy and paste it to the post. With one exception and that is I resize my pics to 320 x 240 before I load them to Photobucket, this makes them fit the post without anyone having to scroll horizontaly. And it also allows them to load to the photobucket account a little faster.
But to each, His/Her own.

Mine are all hosted on my web site & I use the

Thanks, gentlemen. Basil, I appreciate why you want
the pics posted elsewhere with a link. I'm not so
computer savy and the uploads to Photobucket seemed
a bit of a headache.

Appreciating its best for the Forum server, I will
continue to do so.

All the suggestions that everyone has given you work very well. But if you want to make moving photos a breeze, download the "Flock" web browser. It's free and it's backed by Photobucket. It's based on "Firefox". It has a method of putting photos in an on/off drop down image display where you just grab a photo using the UBB box and drop it on the page. It uploads photos from your Photobucket album or your computer.

And I for one appreciate that!! It drives me nuts when people link photos that are 3 miles wide and it causes the entire post to become that wide, which in turn means you have to scroll to the right to read anything! About 640 pixels wide is as wide as you want to go for a photo displayed on the form, 600 is ideal. (you can right click your mouse over a picture and look a "properties" to see the dimensions in pixels). (And yes, I know some people use much wider screen resolution and don't have the problem. I have mine set at 1024 x 768 whick is where my old eyes can still read the print!)
