How to cool a gumbo, Triumph style....

The wife decided that I needed to build a big gumbo for Sunday dinner so here I am, 8:00 at night with a boiling gumbo that I need to cool before I refrigerate it. Not to worry, I just went out into the garage where I keep my big Triumph drying fan and convert it into a gumbo cooling fan. Dual purpose tools. If ya'll want a recipe for a good cajun gumbo, well, ya gotta come down here and watch me make it. You can't write these things down.

There's that mysterious toe again! Now it's hiding under a white sock. It's peeking up at us from the bottom of the screen as always!

Bill,
This reminds me of being in New Orleans for one of my cousins wedding. Staying with my aunt and uncle we had for dinner one night a shrimp gumbo, made by my uncle, that was without a doubt the best thing I had ever tasted in my entire life. Years later, long after my uncle Joe had passed on I asked my aunt Francis if she had the recipe for Uncle Joe's shrimp gumbo and she just laughed and told me their maid must have made it. I was devistated. So, If you have a recipe and you need a waylay point for all the Triumph shows and trails that seem to all be in Pennsylvania next year I have an avilable bedroom and kitchen

Bill,

That's what I like about you. It's all about innovation! I suppose if you cool the gumbo down too much you could stick it under those two pipes stickin' out the back of your car?

Paul,

Wasn't it a sneaker last time?

Think it was a bare foot last time??
I just noticed your car has that big side stripe, you got a good shot of it...I've been thinking about putting one on mine - once I get some paint on it, and mines also green.

'S OK, Bill - I'll take this one! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Cajun gumbo (redundant actually!) is nothing short of the very best "soup" you'll ever have the privilege of consuming. Typically, the recipe begins with a roux (flour slightly scorched in fat drippings). Ingredients for gumbo are varied - basically it's a "cook what ya got" thing. However, my personal favorite is shrimp and okra, with a goodly amount of crab claws thrown in for extra punch.

Lots of herbs and spices, and it is served over rice. For me, the thicker the consistency the better, but some prefer it a little thin.

Good description, Mickey, coming from someone that knows. (He spent enough time in New Orleans.) Now we need to tell them about an alligator sauce piquant . Man, das good!

Must've made you hungry coming out of Mass this morning. Gonna make one today, you?

If I may be presumptuous, my wife has what I consider the consummate (pardon the pun!) recipe for shrimp and okra gumbo. I'd be glad to forward it to you later this afternoon.

Quick, Mickey, give him the complete recipe! He might go off and do something dangerous, like add curry or bangers. Might end up looking like bubble & squeak.

You did say something about using leftovers.....
