How smart is the Smart Car?

In that crash our LBCs would have looked just like that VW, but we will continue to drive them.
 
I’ve always consoled myself with the fact that the smaller the target the harder it is to hit.
The driver has to drive defensively to “help” the other driver miss. :driving:

Funny how Midget guys are cappin' on drivers of small cars.....

Hittin' a Smart car w/ a big truck would be like puntin' a football.

It strikes me that virtually any modern small car would be inherently safer than our old LBCs... though much, much less fun or interesting.

Holy COW !!!!! I bought Kelly an Expedition in case of crashes but now it looks like she'll have a bus !!! I think that's a H3, which is nothing more than a S series truck. Looks like the emergency exit will still open up. Well, at least you know your kids as safe.
 
I don't know much about the smart but this. Evidently there is some kind of plastic belly pan or cowling underneath the car. This gal at work has one and when she got up to 70 mph this thing really started to make a noise like it was coming out from under there, and this was worrying her, and for good reason, I would think. She called the Smart people to ask about the noise and the problem and the answer she got was "you should not be speeding". This made me mad enough to beat the snot out of someone and I don't even own the dang thing. I understood the parent company was benz and they make on of the, if not the best and safest cars in the world and they pride themselves on how the car does at speed. Her car weighs a bit over 1800 pounds and that is heavy for a two seater and its not right as in its top heavy, too tall for its width IMHO.
 
I don't think the car has the wheelbase for high speeds. Wasn't it originally designed for European cities? Narrow streets and tight parking. For that, it is a good choice. Though I agree it is ugly.

That's not a Hummer H3T. It's an H2 SUT.

Statistically you're no safer driving a large car or a minivan than you driving an SUV. Even the better mid-size cars have injury records per mile that rank with the best truck-based SUVs. This is almost entirely due to single vehicle accidents resulting in rollover, which are essentially unknown outside of SUVs.

They are statistically better at injuring others, however (except in school buses).

That's the idea, the ~other~ car is the crumple zone.

...like I said before, when it comes to my wife, all bets are off...

I don't have a problem with this policy as she is a VERY safe driver. if you get in a wreck w/ her, it's gonna be your fault.

I got it for her after seeing a yahoo in a Sentra driving 70 MPH down our twisty two lane road on the wrong side at 70 MPH in a blind turn w/ no shoulder and a 15 ft drop off on both sides. If someone had been comming the other way it would have been BAD. I can't believe how bad people drive here...and I thought New Orleans was bad !!!

Have you ever driven in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area? I'd rather drive down Broadway in NYC. At least those people know where their going. Well, it seems that way anyway. :jester:
 
You want a good story on Smartass Cars?

My neighbors have one.
They have had....issues, and have reported another neighbor for providing a habitat for rats (even though the county found no food source, burrows, or any signs of rats.......apparently the presence of blackberry bushes is now considered a "rat habitat", but I digress).

How did they know?

So far, RATS have eaten the soy-based wiring insulation out of the car three times, at the cost of repair of thousands of dollars.

I am waiting for the county to show up again.......and point out exactly where the rat food source IS.

I guess if you drive one of those smartass cars into a blizzard, you can always eat the wiring insulation to keep your strength up.
