How restore the "gold" finish of TR6 door latch?

The door latch mechanism has a gold or yellow finish to it. How have you all restored that color after removing rust? I don't want to just paint it.

I think that is a cadmium plating, you can take it to a plating place that offers the service, or Caswell sells do it your self plating kits, or Eastwood has paint to try to mimic it. No experience myself, but my first attempt would be to try and find a commercial plating place, from what I've read if you can find one its not a very expensive thing to farm out.

If it is/was Cadmium, you can forget about an exact match. You will be hard pressed to find anyone who can or will offer that anymore. It is considered too toxic to be safe. You will be able to find people offering yellow zinc chromate that is similar in appearance. I do not believe zinc chromate is as durable and rust resistant as the cad plating. Once you get the color you are looking for you may want to consider spraying a clear finish on top to protect both the metal and the plating.

As Doug says. No one does cadmium plating anymore, it's yellow zinc.

Had some done a while back by Jeff Palya at Paltech.

My next batch, I'm going to try these folks as they are local to me:

Cadmium plating is an original vintage motorcycle hardware finish.Lots of places still do it,but the word from some is dont wait to long,as it is becoming harder to find places willing to comply with strick controls.
Heres one recommened source from my vintage MC forum cad ,and they do gold cad.Brightworksrestorations was also recommended.
