TR2/3/3A How rare is a small-mouth TR3?

I caught a bit of a "Modern Marvels" episode on the History Channel this afternoon that happened to be on sports cars. They were showing a beautiful Old English White TR2 owned by someone in the San Diego Triumph Club.
Is it anyone we know?

Bruce -

The TR2 and TR3 have the same apron. Only difference is the grille. The 2 has a recessed grille, close to the radiator, and the 3 has a grille mounted at outside of the opening.

Besides the other items mentioned, the one Sherlock posted also has later model "beehive" turn signal lenses. The TR2 and 3 had flatter ones (again, according to Piggot's book).

This one looks to me like it's either an "updated" TR2, or a "backdated" TR3. Either way, it's a nice one (even without the bumper).

Hi guys. Been on holidays and missed much of this thread. Nice picture Sherlock. If I had driven by it in old Teddy, all four drums would have been smoking. There is actually a difference between TR2 and TR3 aprons. On the 3 apron, the inner part that provides the tunnel back to the radiator does not have a top. On the TR2, it does. So if you reach up inside the mouth of a TR2, which you can do because the grill is recessed, there will be a top to the tunnel. This is probably a TR3 or a 3A with a small mouth apron. The door handles are a bit of a giveaway. GT kits were usually installed with the hardtop option and I don't see any mounting plates on the capping. But..... who's to say the original build sheet didn't read GT kit no hardtop or perhaps on a resto, the car was changed. Very hard to tell without all info. Anyway I would still lock em up to have a look. I run my 2 without any front bumper and prefer the look also. If you see it again, please get me his number. Didn't realize that! I wonder if the top to the tunnel would improve cooling on mine... GREAT! Just what I need -another project!

Ah but Mickey it's "extremely therapeutic" and I too concur.
Congrats on your new t-shirt. Brian /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF
