How NOT to shorten new choke cables...

Smart me, I ordered and received a brand new set of choke cables from TRF, got em in and immediately went to work to shorten them to fit the middle and third carbs on my trips setup. Man, I did a beautiful job, got em all in, ready to hook up and found that I had shortened them up 3" too short! Talk about feel like a dummy. And I was ready to crank the beast over the long weekend. Called Dave and ordered another set, won't be in till next week, after the long weekend.

Life, like my choke cables, is too short.....

Sounds like time to start engineering a "one to many" setup so you only need a single choke cable.

The operative rule in my trade is, "Measure twice. Cut once."
Doesn't eliminate stupidity, but if liberally used, tends to minimize it...

Hey Moses, I think it's time to get rid of that darn bug! :yesnod:

I'm with Art. That things really "BUGS" me. I see it out of the corner of my eye and I want to swat it.

How stupid am I? The first time I saw it, I tried getting it of my flat screen. The I thought it was trapped between the glass layers.

Luckily I moved the mouse after 10 minutes and put myself out of my temporary misery.

I kinda like the bug !

1 in favor - 4 opposed.

OK... I'll put the picture of my body shell back. Camera's out of batteries right now, or I'd take a picture of my frame or my motor actually being REassembled.

Can't do it till I get to the shop tomorrow. Becky's rig at home doesn't have all my good stuff on it.

Bill,

I feel your pain. I once had a similar situation. I was on weekend duty at the dealership years ago and got a call from a couple going on vacation in their motor home and the cruise control was inoperative. Those were the days when their were two speedo cables, one from the speedo to the servo and then from the servo to the transmission. If the little guy broke, no cruise control.

So I pull it apart and proceed to cut not one, but two cables too short. Luckily, the cable housing was fine and we had cable kits that were inner cables only, so no big expense, but just hurrying and trying to get them going quickly made me take twice as long as if I took my time and did it right the first time.

Yeah, we sold motor homes there too. I hated those big stupid things.....Someday I'll relive my experiences with propane gas stoves and no eye brows or mustache for two weeks.

A quick field fix. Find a shop that works/stocks parts for the old Beetle, Type I, II or III. Heater cable and throttle cable extensins(and even some hardware stores) have a barrel with retention screws in each end, so you can attach one end to your existing cable, and a piece of wire cable to the other end.
