The (almost) one-handed version.On my 1995 Dodge Dakota V8
1. Warm truck up
.Place down plastic mat (for any spills)
.Place new oil containers & filter next to truck
.Set drain container close by to drain used filter into
.Set empty oil container close by(5 quart) to put used oil into
.Set ratchet & socket nearby for drain plug
.Jack up truck & use jack stands
.Put drain pan under truck
SO FAR SO GOOD
.Remove drain plug (while dropping gasket into it)
.Let drain
.Try & remove oil filter (there's barely room between the frame & body)
.Drop used oil filter into drain pan
.Drop paper towel into drain pan
.Put drain plug back on (after finding a new gasket somewhere in the garage)
.Try & install new oil filter
.Notice it would work better if you turned the wheel away from the truck
.Struggle,& FINALLY get new filter on
.Start up & check for leaks
.No leaks! - Pull drain pan with used oil out from under truck
.Remove jack stands & lower truck
.Pull used filter, paper towel & drain plug gasket out of dirty oil in drain pan
.Clean up oil spilled on plastic mat
.Clean up tools,mat & myself
This all took just 1-1/2 hours. The good news is that nobody saw me doing it!
Now I get to do it again on the "New" Dakota
