Sigh.....

It was a very dark day when money was invented.

m

Rather live in a cave? Not me. Needs to pay da rent and da gas and da other stuff! Kant do it widout money honey.

And what happens if money were to become worthless? not likely to happen i know. I think the barter system is much better. Why do i have to have a job that pays in green paper? Who decided that? Whos idea was that? If money were to become worthless- The world would not stop. The sun would still rise. But all those wall street types that make money by playing with money would have to become producers of something economically viable to survive. It would be a good thing.

lets not forget
β€œFor the love of money is the root of all evil.”

I agree, but would add, "I don't view other people's success - as long as it is legal AND ethical" Too often, we hear of employees being laid off while management lines up for their bonus checks, sadly a common occurrence today!!!

OMG, legal AND ethical!? What's a crook to do? :wall:

I don't view other people's success - as long as it is legal - as a problem for me. If someone legally makes a boatload of money (legally), they can buy a boat - or a yacht - which keeps the yacht maker in business and their employees employed. I know, I'm a sick twisted freak.

I happily volunteer as another sick, twisted freak. There is NO reasonable way to argue a commonly agreed upon medium of exchange is somehow evil... and further, that somehow there is a reason one person's effort is somehow ~owed~ to another by "need".

...I think this thread is soon locked...

silentunicorn, i believe that in the rather near future it will not be any manor or form of currency that our worlds governments have long established i.e. coins, bills, checks, credit cards, etc. that will sustain the longevity of any individual or those of ones family or our society as a whole but rather the raw skill, talent and ability of an individuals creative worth, in other words if you cant synch a tri-carb set up you am outtah here man!!!!...

Simple, you trade the chicken for an agreed amount of paper which is controlled in its production and guaranteed by a bank or a government, then you exchange said paper for a bicycle at a previously agreed upon exchange rate.

That being said, and, while I can't disagree about the "if you earn it" principle, I'm afraid I can't speak to the millions of dollars in bonuses while others lose their homes or the ratio of executive compensation to workers without completely violating the rules of this board so I'm going to think about British cars now. Bye

Right. Your MG might stop, but the world, in all likelihood, would continue spinning. :jester:

Is the world spinning or are we standing still and everything around us is revolving

No, actually, my 4 year old niece is standing still, and the world is revolving around her!

I still like coagulated, aged, reduced whey, bacteria- and mold-laden dairy by-products.
