How much does a 1275 weigh?

I already know the answer and I’m probably the only person who would do this, but when an engine falls off the cart don’t try to catch it! Cleaning up the garage for the holidays and to give my wife her parking spot back, I decided to rest the completed 1275 on a furniture dolly as I normally do and roll it into the corner. As I was rolling along pushing the cart the engine fell off and toward me and in my infinite wisdom I decided to catch it. Physics must not be my strong suit because picking up a 1275 is very different from catching a falling one. Other than a few scrapes and bruises I’m ok and the engine is as well...next time I’ll strap it down.

Glad to hear your OK. Serious back problems have resulted from less. I've seen big strong guys swapping engines in Spridgets, at the track, by manhandling them but never considered my back up to it.

Kurt.

Gotta be 200lbs or more. I dead lifted mine onto an 18" box, it took everything I had.

My recollection from the shop manual is that a 948 complete engines weighs 225 pounds. But I'll check later. And since the blocks are pretty much the same, does that mean that the 1275 weighs less 'cause it's got more air in it?

It seemed like 500 lbs. when I unloaded mine down from the F150.
Luckily,it was on rollers.

Stationary it weighs 267 lbs, falling it weighs about 2670 lbs! Don’t try to catch it!

The Austin Healey Sprite Mark l Workshop Manual says 245 pounds under 'Engine', but there's no indication of whether or not that includes carbs, generator and exhaust manifold. The only other weights that the manual lists are 35 pounds for the transmission and 83 pounds for the rear axle. Doug
