How many miles do you get to a tank of gas...

I know, pretty silly question.

Here's the deal - My Odometer is not working (speedo works, although a little "bouncy")

I need to re-torque the head after 500 miles.

I have a 76 B with twin SU's. Very easy around town driving with a little highway thrown in (No OD).

It seems like i use about 8-9 gallons between fill ups (filling at 1/4 tank)

My thinking is about 2.5 fills before re torquing.

Did the service counter in the 75/76 B's have any use? My car had one, but it's been removed and the speedo cable replaced with the longer non service counter type.

Thanks Steve,
I'm just trying to get a rough estimate as to when i am "around" 500 miles.

Thanks

You run into the problem of can you drive the car without putting your foot all the way to the floor and hear the sweet rumble of the four banger doing its thing. I've never got the hang of it any other way, even with my wife chewing on me. It is that big grin thing. Fiqure 20 mile to the gallon and retorque at 25 gallons. Don't forget to check your clearance on your rocker arms. Also, change the oil.
