How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the world

Hi Folks,

As we all would agree; "LBCs" are really getting up there in value these days regardless of what kind of "LBC" you own.

What is the "Census / Consensus" on how many "Bugeyes / Frogeyes" are alive and well in the world???

"Bugeyes / Frogeyes" ONLY (MK1). "Not being prejudice vs. MK11 or 111s"!

Thanx,

Russ

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the world

I think that's going to be a tough one to determine! Seems like there are Mk Is cropping up out of the woodwork all the time (barn-finds etc.). A breakdown of how many were shipped to what part of the world out of the total production run of 49,000+ (49,615?)would give us a starting point of determining how many survivors there may be in each country! I would guess that outside the UK, the majority would be found in the US and OZ! :confuse:

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the world

I've got one.
but if I put together all the bits I took off/cut off, I would have two.
I think I've seen this statistic somewhere in UK.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the world

There are several registeries around, one in OZ and one in the US but they do not like to share data in any way.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the world

What's the point of having a registry if they won't share data??

Ask the CIA or the FBI or .... OK way out of line but I couldn't resist :wall:

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

They wouldn't know. The last time they asked the Brits for intel, we ended up with our ... in a crack.

Sorry, couldn't resist even if that little guy on my shoulder kept saying...NO! NO!

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

G'Day Russ,

The man to contact is Ray English.

He has compiled a World Wide Register of Mark1 Sprites.

He has a terrific Museum dedicated to the Mark1 and issues a quarterly magazine called "Marque One".

Ray can be contacted via e-mail at rayenglish at dodo dot com dot au (Substitute @ for at and . for dot)

Cheers,

John Shep.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

So, someone ask him and let us know.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

Yeah! What Jack said...I wouldn't want all of us to start sending him emails and get him pi**ed!!!

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

So you ask him, and then let us know. That way will be easier on all of us

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

Yea Mike, let him get [censored] at you. LOL

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

It might be a good idea for all the Bugeye owners that use this site to make a list to send Ray, so that he can keep his Register up to date.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

According to the Austin-Healey Club of America membership directory for 2008, there were 497 AN 5's
registered in north America. I'll venture to say that 90% are licensed, and on the road. That figure includes Canada, (Bluewater/Sarnia, 3) (Southern Ontario, 16) (Quebec, 6) ( Manitoba, 5). None of the other Canadian Provinces list any. That includes Hawaii (4) also.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

I have two that haven't been registered for years, And I know of another in my town unregistered
so I would probably triple the figures for all the project across this land

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

I have three that havent been registered since 1973. They are being rebuilt/restored right now and probably wont be done for 3 years yet. I would venture to guess that 3x that would still be low. I know of a few others around my area that are in barns that the owners wont let go of yet, but those havent been registered in a long time either.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

It is so easy to stuff these cars in a corner somewhere, pile junk on them till you cann't see them.

then forget you have them

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

My friend has one that has sat since 1976 in a garage.
He's getting it roadworthy now. He dreads dealing with
the unpaid taxes and the highway dept. :wall:
