Greetings I'm new to the Triumph forum but have spent some time over in the Spridget forum because of my 67 Midget.
I have recently bought 2 1959 TR3A's from a trusted summer neighbour "sight unseen" - they are at his other house about 2.5 hours from me.

Both cars are rebuildable & he started on one of them so it is completely torn down, the other is all together, rolling on tires - Because I have only seen pictures & ones from a distance is how long are these cars & how much do they weigh ?

I can haul the complete one on an open trailer, but the other would have to be in an enclosed trailer - so I go to thinking if it was possible to haul both end to end in an enclosed trailer, saving me an extra 5 hour round trip.

Any info. or suggestions would be appreciated, once I have them home and in my garage I'm sure this will be the first of many, many postings :smile:

From the shop manual:

Length: 12' 7"
Width: 4' 7-1/2"
Shipping weight (dry): 1989 US Pounds
Curb weight (W/ gas, oil, water, etc.) 2105 US Pounds
 
2135 is complete curb weight. I'd expect that to be closer to 1600 on a car with no interior.

Considering I've recently handled all major parts of the TR3A, I can cite approximate weights for a number of items...

Body Tub: 250 lbs (two persons can lift and move)
Body Panels: 10-50 lbs/ea. (~400 lbs total... 4 quarters, 2 doors, bonnet, boot, nose, and spare)
Frame: 150 lbs (bare, 400 lbs rolling)
Engine: 450 lbs
Tranny: 100 lbs
 
If length is an issue I think you could shorten them a couple of inches by removing the front bumpers and rear bumperettes. Not much gain but if you're close it might help.

(By the way - a TR3 seems REALLY small, until you put one next to a Lotus Elan.)
 
Thanks All for the info. - Looks like I'll be making 2 trips, total weight & 2 back to back makes for a pretty big haul :smile:
Looking forward having them home - another LBC is always a good thing !
