TR4/4A How is the TR3 different from a TR4A

Hi all,

As if I haven't had enough British car oil inhaled into my lungs, I'm thinking of buying a TR3.

I currently have an XKE, and a TR4A. I have had an MGB as well, and I think that the TR3 definitely fills a void in my lineup. It's a quintessential British sports car...arguably the most.

Anyways, in what ways besides looks is the TR3 different from a 4A?

Much as I love my wedge, if I had the opportunity to get a nice 3, i'd jump on it and trade/sell the wedge to make garage space. I say go for the 3, it was the last of the classic cut down door side screen roadsters. Truly a style of car from a much earlier time.

Despite the many mechanical similarities I think you would find the TR3 to be a quite different driving experience.

I drive both a 3 & a 4 and the cut-down doors and steering box give the TR3A a unique feel -- I can only imagine the contrast it would have to an IRS TR (if your 4A is IRS).

Both are great on long trips though the TR4 is the one I take when my wife is along -- she's not too crazy about being a passenger in the TR3A and I can't say that I blame her.

When you pull up in a TR4 you feel like you've arrived.

When you pull up in a TR3 you feel like you've cheated death once again.

I think I want one... It's a very funky automobile and I just want to be like a Brit during the day with a pipe and tweed jacket, and at night, I'll be a clown with some rodney dangerfield horns and music.
