How important is getting the float height correct on SU HD6 carbs?

Hi All,
Following my rebuild of the HD6 carbs (thanks for the advice on my previous thread) on my BT7 I have been looking at the float bowl height adjustment. According to my manual the height should be set to 11mm (using a drill bit or similar). At the moment the forks are about 12-13mm. dies this mean that the fuel level will be 1-2mm to high in the jet and that the mixture will me too rich? Should I adjust to exactly 11mmor leave well alone?
Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil
yes! It should be set to 7/16" I believe. If it isn't the fuel will be higher in the jet. If it says that in the manual it's probably a good idea to adjust it.

If correct height is 11mm and yours is 12 -13mm, that means your float will be 1 -2 mm lower, as this distance is measured from the top flange of the cap, therefore the level will also be 1-2mm lower in the jet as both are equal. So if this is the case your carb will be running lean.

It's critical that they be correct as specified and they both be the same. Otherwise, you won't get it to tune correctly.
