How fast is your connection?

I'm probably one of the few people who have no clue about this.
What does this mean in "low tech" people's language?

If you go to the web site (link in my first post) and run the test, it will tell you how fast your internet connection is. It does a test for "download" (sending data to your computer) and also upload (you sending data to them). They then tell you how fast, in megabytes per second (millions of bytes per second) you internet connection is. The faster your connection, the faster you can download and upload files and the faster web pages will appear when you surf the web.

32ping
15.78Mbs down
.96Mbs up

not bad imo... service is supposed to be 18Mbs w/ 1.5Mbs up. Achieving the number that I got w/o shutting down everything using the network here is good imo.

29.34 up 3.72 down (Cox cable) on Basil's original link.

Down: 21.65

A lot depends on the quality of the lines and how far you are from the equipment. If you've got an older house you might try running everything directly to the incoming lines outside the house and see what the speed is that way - sometimes dropping a dedicated line from the box to the computer can fix things.

I think they can theoretically get the speeds up a lot more these days, but I've got the fastest they offer in this area

funny thing is...

numbers w/o units is just numbers ...
