How far gone before replacing fenders?

Hi folks. The new TR6 has moderate bubbling on the very lower ends of all four fenders. Two of the fenders the bubbling will probably go all the way through.

I have some replacement fenders available to me about around $250 per, and was hoping to get some feedback if it is better to try to fix vs. just replacing.

Ideas?
 
If you can do the work yourself, do it. If you are going to pay someone for the service, buy new fenders. Chances are, you will pay more to have the old repaired.
 
TRF has new front fenders (wings) on sale for about $350...the sale expires May 31st. The only lower half fender repair I've seen for TR's is for the TR3. If I could have gotten new fenders for $350, I would have jumped on that like stink on crap. It was alot of work to weld on those bottom halves on and get everything so it looks good. I still have one that needs some more work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

If you can get good replacements for $250 per, I say go for it. I paid about $115 each just for the lower half of my TR3 fenders. And then I only used about half of the repair panel because it was flat the whole way up, and on the TR3 the fender starts to curve about 4-5 inches from the bottom. Real PITA.
 
While I do not have personal experience, I have heard that new sheet metal requires a fair amount of work to get it to fit properly. A high quality used original fender might be better. Look on line,or try a reputable used parts place like Team Triumph.
 
I don't know whether the TR6 fenders you are mentioning are reproduction or Heritage parts, but the quality of the Heritage stuff I bought for my Spitfire was excellent. The repro rear valacne was crap and I should have returned it. Unforutnatley I had already welded it in before I test fitted the fenders. Rookie mistake.

I say get new fenders if available. Time is money!
