how does the heater control plinth connect?

Hi all,

I was replacing the radio in the tr6 over the weekend and notice two wires (red and black) coming from the bulb socket of the heater control plinth (see part #73). This is the thin plastic strip located below the heat/choke knobs and above the radio.

What switch should I connect the wires to? Should I wire it to the dashboard display light switch? Or the map light switch (the pull knob below the radio)?

And what is the behavior of the light? does it light the entire plinth?

thanks!

Steve-
The black wire is ground, and the red wire goes to the red/w stripe wire that feeds the instrument lights when you switch on the lights.
I would not reccommend wireing it to the pull switch for the footwell lights. If you do, then you will have both the heater control plinth light AND the footwell lights come on together.... not what you want.

There should already be wires with terminal sockets under the dash for them.

I have a tendency to hang wires over things so they stay out of the way when I am doing other work. Last time I had the tranny out I had to look for a while to find them again. Someone may have done the same, they should be on the drivers side somewhere.

Pretty much, Steve. You know not to expect too much from the instrument lights.
I think the light travels thru the clear plastic strip along the length of the plinth. It seems to get a little dimmer, though, as it travels toward the passenger side.
