So OK LBC fans,

I haven't told anyone this... but...

I spent a week of evenings trying to get my newly rebuilt 1500 A running smoothly...

I re-timed and re-timed, fussed with the carbs and fussed with the carbs... checked and rechecked the ignition wires, plugs, points, et al. Put a new distributor cap on it... then rechecked everything again... to no avail... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

Then...

I realized that I never adjusted my valves... WAY, WAY, off..

NOW it Purrs like a kitten... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

I feel so much better telling someone... PLEASE don't tell anyone else... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

David,

Thanks for keeping it just between us... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I guess the moral of the story is... THINK about it before you do anything... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

no worries, I don't anyone of us would have thought that an engine would not run if the valves weren't opening and closing /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Empathic parallel:

I just replaced the light fixture onna back porch... motion detector thingie and two light sockets. Bulb(s) had apparently burnt out. Went into the supplies and pulled out a new floodlight bulb from the box (last one) and put it a socket. Flipped the switch and *nothing* happened. I could hear the sensor 'click' but no light. All this a week ago. Today: Rummage about inna garage and come up with a new-in-the-box motion detector with 2 bulb sockets of the same basic config. Go out there and take the old one down, wire up the new one, screw all together, aim it and wind in the same "new" bulb. Hit th' switch and *nothing* AGAIN... Looked into the bulb to see BOTH ends of the filament floating in the vacuum. *DOH!* <slaps forehead>... THEN take off the NEW fixture and re-replace the original. Put two OTHER new bulbs in and VIOLA! Light. Tail chasing is great fun!
I'm dizzy now, may I please sit down? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

DrEntropy,

I must wonder if a total restore on one of our cars would take a single weekend without the countless times that we go.. 'down the wrong path, skipping the obvious stuff'. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Ah, but 'tis the fun of it, is it not?... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

OH, please sit down... don't hurt yourself /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Nunyas...

This was deffinately a Homer Simpson 'DOH' /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Where's my adult beverage??? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thirsty.gif

How many divorced men does it take to change a lightbulb? NONE they all went with the house!

That seemed appropriate here..... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Sooo, that's where all my stuff went... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Anyone ever changed the oil and forgotten to put that odd sixed nut looking thing back in the hole in the metal pan underneath the engine? I HEARD about someone doing that once....yeah, that's it!

Shoot if it can be done wrong I've done it that way.

Silverghost,

Yeah, I heard about someone, not me of course, that kept checking the dipstick while they stood in a pool of new engine oil and couldn't figure out where all the oil went...

Or driving around for a week with the oil filler cap off and wondered why the car smelled so bad.... Once Again,, not me.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

or ad infinitum, ad nauseum.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

illigitimi non carborundum.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/angel.gif
