How do I get the steering wheel off the column? I can't find any screws...

And where the L did Chuck put the wire brushes? Paint's drying & I want to get this apart - idle hands and all that bunk...

Are no "screws". Ya got the big NUT inna center off?

Good.... Now put it back on part way. Just 'till the column is almost flush with the nut on the inside...

I'll wait. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No big nut in the center, that's what I expected when the MG emblem came off. Just a flat 1" brownish 'washer' and a 3/16" or so flat recessed thing (not a screw, nut or bolt)

Sawzall?

Doc - this is the one off Binabox, I think...Janel - has Chuck had the wqheel off?

Put the column in a vise...grab the wheel with both arms - & pull...expect to fall backwards when it does come off...oh, PB Blaster the splines first

Steering wheel & column are sitting in my driveway. I'll try that Tony. Umm, what can I use instead of PB Blaster, any rustystuff loosenerupper?

Man, I got a $30,000 bionic right elbow, not sure I can pull hard enough, but what the L, I'll givver a go. Cripes I'm talking like Doc more and more. Inna minute I'll have whiskers.

Ummm.... can we FIRST have a digiPic? Pretty-please???

I'd HATE to find Janel has butt-bruises 'cause of MY bad advice.

Oh great! Thanks for THAT visual!

I tried Doc, first off, but my bloody camera won't upload to my computer all a sudden for some reason. I'll reboot and try again.

((plenty of padding, no danger of bruising))

&, Janel, look that column over closely before you clamp it up in a vise...make sue you're clamping the piece the wheel's attached to & not the outer skin or you'll be rebuilding a column!

Likely only if'n you grow a moustache on yer knee...

OKay... I'm goin' fer th' skinny part of the branch here: Bench vise? Put the assembly in the vise with the column HANGING from the wheel. Column thru the jaws, not tight... Wheel hub resting on the jaws as much as possible...

Camera won't upload, but never fear, I'll try with Sarah's camera.

'k...

Gotta be the software or cable, won't upload with hers either.

Can you get the "rig" in the vise as described above?

There's a plastic 'cowl' right below the steering wheel proper and the hub, there's screws in that. I'm going to start there, then the vise.

This thing has all the switches and cowl still in place?!?! Yup. Remove the cowl, and then the switches from the column.

I did, and I think I have to get the horn push assembly off to get to a nut maybe? And it won't budge. Other one came right off Emma's wheel, but this one's a bugger.
