How do I get Shift Knob off?

I know these seems like a trivial question, but I can not seem to get my Shift knob off. How do I take it off properly? (80 Spit) I have OD and do not want to damage the wiring, the switch, or anything. I like the feel of the factory knob... but I need to take it off to pull my carpet, to get to my OD where why propshaft enters... blah blah blah. But this knob! It has what looks like a way to put a wrench on it and turn it, so I tried it... but I didn't try too hard as I was worried I would break my Stick or something. So whats the trick?

It's been a while since I've owned a Spitfire but if I remember correctly you have to pry the switch cover off the top of the knob then unscrew the switch, lift it then remove the wire connections. After that you can proceed with removal of the knob.

AHH! Thank you! I didn't even know I could pop that thing off. I got the knob off now. The Dummy PO had the inside collar nut on upside-down... so getting that off was a pain, but its off. Thank you so much!
