How did you spend Memorial Day?

Memorial Day in the Valley of Virginia. Great day for a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here's a photo taken yesterday with my wife and I next to our car, and some friends next to their TR4. Hope you had a great day on the road.

Re: he How did you spend Memorial Day

Good looking pair of TR's there, Ed!

Quiet day here. Wife had to work and I spent the day reading.

Re: he How did you spend Memorial Day

spent hours getting the "Fake Alert" trojan off my computer and putting things back together ....

Also, had a nice Chinese diner.

Ed, nice photo of the twin white TRs.

Good time to be up in the mountains, in the cooler air. It was in the upper nineties down here in C'ville, plenty hot. Plus, I forgot to turn off the heater valve in the MG, adding to the misery!

Give me a yell if you're ever over this way.

Cheers. :yesnod:

Took the Spit for a putt into wine country (Sonoma). Bought cheese and bread in town and had a picnic with my wife overlooking the "Valley of the Moon". Had a really nice day and the Spit ran like a top.

Now have about 500 miles on it since putting it back on the road.

I refereed TEN games at the Delco Boys Soccer Tournament... and it was stinking HOT!
My last game was a boys U15 game... one team from Ottawa and one team from Brunswick, NJ.
At one point in the game one of the Canadian players asked me "how much time was left"; I answered him in French and he smiled.... just as I finished answering him one of the New Jersey players said to me "gee, I wish I spoke Canadian". I truly had to control myself from laughing in his face... kids!

Thank you for correcting me Don... that IS the only Canadian word that I know of. In fact, it IS the national word :yesnod:
Note to JP... go ahead, paybacks are fun!

Wish I were on the road. Cleaned the shop and watched it rain for about the 10th consecutive day. Twas snowing in the mountains.

Heard it's been rough for you guys

Re: How did you spend Memorial Day?

We were hot here in Alabama. 95 last two days. Took the 250 for a grocery run Saturday, the XKE out yesterday for beer run. Company finally left about 10 last night. Now to clean up and get back to business.

It was 95 in the Valley yesterday, but about 10 degrees cooler up in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The rhododendron, past in the Valley, was in full bloom up in the mountains. Wonderful sight!

Today in the Valley, high 90s and extremely humid. Makes me homesick for Tucson and its "dry heat." (Less rust on the Triumph as well.)

Mark. Will do. Look forward to meeting you... in my old home of Charlottesville (Now THERE's a hot place in the summer).

BTW: A couple of days ago I had the opportunity to ride in my friend's 1928 Amilcar. What a wild ride! My friend has 15 cars of this quality in his barn (most of which were rebuilt or restored by him). We also rode in his 1953 Jaguar XK 120S and his 1956 AC Bristol. He's the person who convinced me to "get back into" sports cars after 50 years. Here is the Amilcar (Pardon me for putting a French car on the British Car Forum!):

Re: How did you spend Memorial Day?

Each year for British Car Week (that's now) our local club has a 'Phantom Car Show' where we take over an unused parking lot from 7:30 to 9:30.

That's a Land Rover, a TVR and a London taxi parked to the right of my TR4 -- we're a rather diverse club.

As always, my favorite part of any show is sharing the British car experience with kids -- letting them sit in the car & 'test' the horn. I keep a bag of assorted Hot Wheels that they can select a car from. The little guy behind the wheel chose a green TR6 -- good taste in cars I think.

I was going to complain about being sick all weekend, but your post has reminded me about a little thing called perspective.

Good luck, Steve. These decisions are really, really hard. I hope he's doing better.

Re: How did you spend Memorial Day?

oops I wasn't quite finished.
Went to the local Bar-b-que and car show. Felt a little out of place.. Quite a lot of people enjoyed the TR3 and I heard a lot of the same stories I used too.. In college...my old boy friend.etc..
It was a lot of fun.

Re: How did you spend Memorial Day?

Got the brakes sorted out on the TR3A and went for a short test drive out in the country with Daughter #1 and then began the interior tear-down on the MGA with Daughter #2. These kids are gonna' work for the cars they inherit!

Re: How did you spend Memorial Day?

I like that attitude, Mike! They're also learning Practical Physics and engineering!

YAY!
