How clean are your tools?

I don't wipe them down after each use, but I do keep them pretty organized and put them back after each job. Nothing worse that having to stop a job because you can't find your tools. I also don't let them get horribly filthy.

I wipe down my tools most of the time when I put them away. Or if I’m in a hurry (Test Drive or the wife’s bugging me about some honey do I forgot to take care of) I’ll leave them on the work bench until I can get to them.

Where I really fall short is in the organization department. While all my tools have their place I haven’t properly organized my tool box drawers yet. Oh sure I’ve got a drawer for my sockets & ratchets and another for my normal spanners (wrenches) neither are laid out that well. So it almost always takes a bit of time to find what I am looking for.

I got a socket organizer and a wrench organizer from Sears. Otherwise, I just label the drawers with PostIt's and leave it at that.

Yep, those cans will survive nearly anything. Over the years I've given almost all of mine away. But the 20mm cans have ridden in the back of my truck for years without showing any problems.

Interesting question!

Voted for a bit of leftover grease...

While I prefer picking up clean tools from the box, it doesn't bother me if a touch of grease gets left in a socket or on a pair of pliers...

Plus I've got two sons and a wife who use the same tools...

And who is the one who is leaving things all over place and defeating my efforts to put things away as they are used? Me thinks you better get back in the garage again for awhile! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

Hey, are we putting the engine in your race car this weekend?
