How best to clean up seat rails?

The rails are profoundly grubby and I would like to clean them up so that they are more presentable. Normally on dirty metal pieces I would use Simple Green and then go at them with a wire brush and wire wool, but I don't think that would be very effective for the seat rails.

Any advice most welcome.

I soaked mine in a tub of Simple Green for a couple days, and then hit them with a high-pressure garden hose..... turned out pretty good...

I don't know if my seat rails are original, but mine are galvanised.
I would recommend a detergent and a nylon brush to clean yours. A wire brush or an abrasive would undermine any protective treatment on the steel seat rails. Grease up ya elbows and get into it..........

Craig
