WOOHOO BABY!

~does the happy happy joy joy dance~

I knew if I worked dahubby long enough he'd cave! Begging, bribing, threatening, coercing...whatever it took! We're getting another car! A B in a box! '66. (thanks Tony, and thanks Kelly for the heads up on this!)

YEA BABY!!

Well, THAT should keep you busy for a while! Once that one is on the pavement, you're gonna find out what the real MGB was DESIGNED to be like. Earlier IS better.

If my thirty-six years of pre-'68 MGB ownership can be of help, you've got it (or rather you and dahubby). Get right down in there wif 'im. There's no part of that car you will ever be confused about once you've had your mits on it. You're gonna be a *sophisticated* gearhead! WOOHOOO!!!

COOL! Clarksville is on the way to Gurley. Y'all be sure and stop for coffee, if you're going to pick it up.

Mickey

Mickey, we'll be going down 57 to 24 through Nashville and straight down to Huntsville I think. He I mean. I can't get off to go along!

Now to find a trailer.

Well, tell himself to stop for coffee - I'll be here!

Mickey

Good for you Jaybird.
I can't think of anything more romantic on a cold winter night than rebuilding MG parts in front of a blazing fireplace with visions of spring rallies dancing in your head.

Dang, I don't have a fireplace. Will a firepit work?

And umm, Randi, for now, he THINKS it's his car. We won't tell him any different until the shakedown run.

Okay, well if you don't stop off here in Twang Town as you go to get the new "baby" I'll be offended. When will the blessed event take place?

Now does this mean Mr. Jaybird is going the trip alone?

Entropy has it right. The early cars are what it's all about, before the US legislations started taking over. They are truely different animals to drive. You're in for a world of fun!

Here's the lowdown from Tony on the car:

Somebody started disassembling this solid, rustfree, little '66 & - I think - just got in over their head....the worst part of the body is the driver door skin; & there's a little bondo in the rear driver corner covering an accident that wasn't smoothed enough before they started skimming bondo (easy hammer & dolly work); the aluminum hood has the usual dent in the front edge from hands pushing down but the underside is great

...the engine is disassembled & there are 2 sets of pistons/rods; crank looks like it'll only need polish; head appears great; carbs are in good shape....dash is out & primered but all instruments are there (oh, wiring harness is unmolested)....panel, etyc for interior are in trunk; passenger seat is disassembled but no rust in either frame; PAXCKAWAY top bows & header look new; wire wheels are in great shape & have held air ever since I brought her home; grille & stainless actually very presentable

...I wouldn't disassemble body any further were I building a daily driver...I'd reskin the door, work the body smooth, primer & paint!

Were I going along, we'd stop. Since it will be dahubby and another guy, I can't make any promises. I have a feeling it will be get up, drive down, get the car, drive back. All in about 14 hours. But I'll be sure to tell him he has to stop anyway! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I mentioned that when we go to Gatlinburg in June for MG2006 we'd have tons of cars to look at for paint ideas. Dahubby said, 'It'll be done by then.'

HA. We'll see. But I circled June 15 on the calendar as a target date.

Congrats and good luck! with the "B in a box" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
Now, if anyone knows of a simular "C in a box" I'd like to find it!

Bruce /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Ahh, I know of a C in a box. But I can't persuade the owner to part with it. ((I thought I was the only person on earth that wanted a C))

Congrats Jaybird,

The earlyish B's are among the best (through to 1971). I trust this one comes with overdrive.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Speaking of which does this mean the overdrive project in the current "old Girl" is off for now or does it mean you're now looking for a Mk1 & a Mk2 overdrive box?

As for the only person looking for a C in box I can't put myself in that category because I've already done that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif. But if you go down that path be very careful to make sure you have all the bits, you'd be surprised how much of the C is different to the B and how many of those bits (particularly those to do with the front panels/floor pans) are made of unobtainium (I was also plesantly surprised by what wasn't!!)

You and Dahubby have fun with the new addition to the family, make sure to post photos when she arrives.

regards

Thanks Tom. No overdrive with this new baby. And yes, I'm still looking for an overdrive for Emma! I don't intend her to become the neglected child just because there's another here! I'd love to take both to Gatlinburg in June for MG2006, but I don't think we'll have thecarwithoutaname done then...no matter WHAT dahubby thinks!
