My '64 TR4 has always run hot. Even at highway speeds the temp needle is usually near the far right (hot) side of the gauge. This is an original car that my dad bought new. I've done the usual things like recore the radiator and replaced the thermostat. Recently I tried a couple of advanced measures. For one I bought one of Mark Macy's cooling fans to replace the modest original four-blade fan. Macy's has several more blades. Additionally I also replaced the water pump with a five-vane pump I bought from Moss. I just got that finished before the end of the driving season so I haven't driven the car enough to determine whether these updates have been successful. When I was chatting with one of my friends about the updates he asked me a troubling question. He asked if the temp gauge had ever been replaced. No, it's the original. He suggested that the gauge may be giving me a faulty reading since as hot as the car has gotten (according to the gauge) it's never overheated. Hmm. Good point. Anyone have any experience with either the Macy fan blade (TR2-4) or the five-vane water pump? Chauncy Dashpot
