Hot starting Weber

1978 midget no smog, weber dgv 32/36, hard starting when hot. Will only start when gas pedal is held down and then only after many cranks. Has electric fuel pump and pressure gauge. It is not the choke because I took it off and it was doing it before. thanks Jim
 
What type of pump Jim, and where is it mounted? Does the car have headers? Presumably it's vapor lock, but I'm surprised the electric pump doesn't help.
 
Small pump mounted below tank in back-pressure about 3psi. Set float level to correct specifications. No headers but hollow cat. converter. I took off water choke to see if that would cool it down, also put the old heat shield under the carb-slid in-it provides some protection.. I have seen thick gaskets under the carb to prevent heat getting to the carb-mine is thin. thanks for the help-Jim
 
You probably don't have room for a thicker gasket unless you have the pierce manifold. I think it has a slightly deeper offset than the cannon. (Live and learn). I am pretty sure you are experiencing vapor lock but it is probably happening in the carb and not the fuel lines. I've experienced the same issue from time to time. Seems like some of that went away when I richened up the idle mixture a bit. But it isn't totally gone. I was going to buy one of those header blankets by Thermotec but can't make myself spend 80 bucks on a maybe. Do you have the heater hose fitted up to the manifold or do you bypass it?
