Despite earlier comments... I do have some degree of respect for hot rods/street rods as long as there is a healthy balance out there.

Anyway went to the show & shine/fun run of a local street rod club and saw some street rods. Of course piles of Ford's, plus a neat 1940 Cadillac, 1947 Packard, and 1953 Studebaker Commander coupe. Plus a really nice car (one of my favourites) a 1970 Chev Chevelle 496 SS station wagon, it's a 1970 Chevelle wagon, the guy built it with all Chevelle SS stuff, the engine is a 454 bored out to 496, it's a great looking car that I had seen for the first time a couple of weeks ago. He only finished it up recently and had it down in the States at an all Chevelle car meet where he said it attracted lots of attention.

There were some nice original cars in with the mix today too...
 
I agree. The right car done well as a hot rod can be a very cool thing. And you have to respect the level and quality of work some of those guys do. Flip through a Hot Rod or Car Crafter sometime if you don't agree. Those guys typically know their stuff.
 
The "bucket-T" rods with flat head Ford V-8s are coming back too (you guys may not remember the originals). I think they are kind of neat due to the simple features.
I am also starting to like the "rat-rod" concept...as long as they are safe and well-built.
 
I also find it interesting to see some of the technological directions some of the current rods are taking. It isn't uncommon to see discussions of effeciency in Car Crafter alongside the raw horsepower. I find myself thinking wistfully over my old 283 powered truck. Mated with an aftermarket fuel injection system and higher compression pistons, I can't help but drool a bit.
