Now if I could just find a way to cool the air stream coming in though the driver side fresh air duct!!!

A few folks have replaced the duct with a double wall insulated hose. Don't know how much it helps.

I think I'm going to go with the Texas Cooler right now and then take a good look at the radiator when I do some other work in the future. Unless I can't get the new fan on without removing the radiator. Then it will be radiator time. Thanks Everyone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Hi,
I would also like to know what the experience has been with electric fans. I installed a six blade fan last year on my everyday driver BJ7 had haven’t hit 212 yet (which is a definite improvement over the previous summer). However, I know I’m just one good traffic jam away. Along with Andrew’s question, any comments on size and placement of an electric fan?
Thanks,
Steve

Dave, Do you (or anyone else) know where you can get the double wall insulated air hose? Anyone have a good result? I installed foil sided bubble wrap insulation inside the original flex duct with minor improvement. Maybe lowered the incoming air temp from 130 to 120 deg. Boy I wish I could get that kind of heat out of the heater in the winter!!!. But hey, even with these small inconviences, it's still the best way to travel. A Healey on the road will always bring smiles to everyone who sees it.

Hi Rob,
No, I don't know where to buy it. The one I saw was a crude arrangement like yours with a larger hose slipped over the outside of everything. Looked terribly out of place & didn't do much. The other way is to use the original outer hose & place a smaller insulated hose inside. this looks ok but doesn't flow much air. Sorry, not much help,

Hi Vette,
I apologize for taking so long to respond especially with your compliment. Thank you. I bought the alternator kit from Hendrix Wire Wheel minus the alternator itself, which I got locally. The kit installed quite easily, the only problem occurred trying to match the part number in the instructions with an actual unit. I don’t think the Napa people were at the top of their game.
As far as goodies for the engine: lightened flywheel, aluminum head with higher ratio roller rockers, Jacobs electronic ignition, Mallory distributor w/ Pertronic trigger, oil cooler w/ spin-on filter, 268 degree cam w/ higher lift, alum oil pan, headers, 2” stainless exhaust w/ Magnaflow mufflers, STILL waiting on the carburetors. Other than that, it’s pretty stock.

RE: Texas Cooler
I want to mention that the tie rod from tranny to frame is absolutely mandatory if this fan is used.
There has been heated discussion about the fan and flexing, but many owners are using it with great results.
Keep the tie rod and mounts in good condition and tight!

Louie, the tie rod is mandatory whether you have a Texas cooler or not and measured tests have shown there is very little flexing with the Haden fan.On the other hand if you want to worry less about the tie rod and its bushings. Then check out "Toms Import Toys" he has good Polly ones at a reasonable cost---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

i just installed 6 bladed stainless fan on my 6 cyl bj7,well made and it seems to be much lighter then original,i didnt remove the radiator, but rather unbolted it and slid it foward as much as possable to avoid coolant spills and associated clean up.[would not recomend this procedure to the uninitiated]removing the radiator would simplify things.i measured the distance from the front of the fan bolts to the rear of rad'its now 1 half inch, looks close, allthough the lower rad'mounts have 2 bolts each side, and one each side on the the top mounts, you can get perhaps another 1 quarter-3 eights inch more distance[for the scaredy cats]by tightening the upper two bolts lastly while leaning the top of the rad'slightly foward,i havent as of yet starded the engine[still try to avoid the associated coolant clean up]but ill let you know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
