Hot Days, No Gas

Recently out on a hot day and had trouble idling, took it in and had carbs adjusted, eight turns to rich- lousy MPG. He told me the gas is heated up from pump to carbs via the long way around. The gas was vaporizing in the carbs. Has anyone put in an electric gas pump and rerouted line from tank?
 
I have driven in Hotlanta (Atlanta, Georgia) many times with the ambient temperature well into the 90's and never had any vapor locks. I still have the original fuel pump and keeps on working. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Further, I don't see how the idle and the vapor lock are related. Usually, when you get a vapor lock, no gas flows to the carbs. Once you get the "lock" broken, the motor usually runs fine. Frankly, I think something else is causing the problem.
 
Hey All, This may sound strange, but I have used(for years) a wooden closthes line clip on the metal part of thh fule line. I eve nused this on a car that was knowen for having vapor lock. One clip and that was fixed! Since the ni`ve used one in every car I`ve owned. Even if it wasn`t know for this problem. Living in the desart it helps to have a car that runs with no surprises! I`ve heard that elec. pumps and PI help with this problem.(I have another car set up this way and have never had any surprises. My `80 supra.) On the limerick(tr-7) I have a carb(1 zs) and have put a clip on that car as well and have not had any thing funny happen as far as that gose.(have clips on both cars) I just put one clip on the metal fule line where it enters the engine bay.(before the pump) Just a thought, Robbie in Wyoming

I'm with vettedog on this one. Spent several summers in Dallas with a former TR6 and never had vapor lock. I guess I'd think harder about it if your fuel line were physically resting on the block, but I can't believe those Ontario summers are giving you vapor lock. And I also agree about the idle - rough idle doesn't mean vapor lock I think.

But if it is vapor lock, forget about going to the VTR convention this summer!
