TR6 horns not working in TR6

Good Morning,
Neither one of my horns are working. I removed each of them and hooked them directly to the battery. Still nothing. I am no electrician, but shouldn't my hooking them to the battery be sufficient to check them? Is this a common piece of equipmdnt to go down in a TR? Is there a way to repair them, or is it better to just buy new ones?

Bad horns are common, but from your description it is hard to tell. Did they stop all at once, together? If so it is likely a wiring/relay problem. If you haven't used them in ages, yes they could be both dead at the moment. There typically is an adjustment screw on them which I think can be fiddled with to get them going potentially. Sorry, don't have the manual or memory handy to help further.
 
Thanks - this TR6 has been sitting for about 25 years. I have had the car for a few months, so I don't know the last time the horns worked. I cleaned the areas where the electical connection connect. I'll try cleaning the adjustment screw to see if that helps.
 
Kevin, the adjustment screw can be a bit of a bugger to turn, so give it some oil for a few days if that is your case. On adjusting, don't turn more than half a turn either way and have them hooked up to battery as you turn. There are some points inside that have corrosion on them and all you will be doing is trying to get them to viberate and get it off. Other than that you have to drill out the rivets and file the points with a diamond file and either bolt it back together of find the 1/4 inch rivets. I think Moss is about $25 for one. So we have the same old story, your time or your money. Sorry, Wayne
 
I found that just adjusting the screws solved my problem. It was very straightforward. But if they are too heavily corroded, then, as wayne mentioned, it might get more involved.
