I took the horn on my BE apart. I had previously tested it on a 12-volt battery, but got nothing.

Looking inside, every thing looks intact. There are things that look like magnets that do have rust on them. The electrical wires all appear to be connected.

I'm looking for a little authenticity, so I'm hoping to get this horn working. Does anyone have some tips on getting it workable?

On an original horn, the setting of that screwdriver adjustment in the center is critical. Put in earplugs, warn the neighbors, power it up and adjust the sucker. Eventually, if all else is OK, it will make a pleasing sound. If not, make sure the interrupter contacts are clean and conducting, and check the coil with an ohmmeter to be really sure it isn't open, even though it may look OK. It should be about an ohm, that's all. That's really all that can be done.

As for me, I got tired of dealing with the original horn (heresy! heresy!) and just got one from Pep Boys. Not romantic, but people know I'm there.
 
DItto..had the same issue..finally got it working and it was more embarrising to use it so just replaced it!.sounded like a goat with a BAD cold!!!

Mine did have air horns, too, but I just want to give authenticity a run.
