Horn "brush"

Got a new horn "brush" from Moss. This is the springloaded connector that goes in the slot in the steering wheel hub and connects the horn button with the metal plate on the cowl. It's too long for my Bugeye. Should I cut it short or am I doing something wrong?

Be sure you have the correct one, MOSS # 560-430. The later one (#263-750) is longer.
