Hoping to drive today

WHOO HOO!!!!!!!

The cars pulls fairly strongly to the left.
A fairly constant high pitched "whine" is heard.

Ok, the strong pull to the left is not a problem, the alignment will solve that. can you tell where the whine is coming from? front / rear left right? does it change with speed? how about with engine speed? I don't recall you ever saying you had a whine before so just a guess is that it is somehow related to the work which was just done, likely something rubbing, so lets start figuring out where it is. Oh yeah one more thing GREAT JOB

Thanks Yisrael, appreciated for sure.

I gambled and cranked the car up for another 0.6 mile
trip in the hood. I really didn't need to drive to
listen for the whine. Immediate upon engine spinning,
car in neutral- low pitched whine. Louder as I increased
the engine rpms. I drove it anyway. Whine the entire time.

Looked in the engine compartment with engine running.
Whine near the front. Near the fan belt. Stop engine,
tighten fan belt, restart engine- whine still there.

Remember a few months back I said about the only DPO Pedro
part left to fail on me was the water pump? And I ordered
a replacement for the day DPO Pedro's water pump failed?

That day is today!! The whine comes right out of DPO
Pedro's water pump and gets louder with increased rpms. S.O.a B.

At least I have a replacement. The Crypt Car is a fighter,
yes?? Doesn't know when he's licked. Amos looking better
every week.

How's this Amos pose??

I guess that is good. Tracking down noises can be a pain. If it makes you feel better, when I filled up the cooling system on the Herald last week all the water came pouring right out of the water pump. luckily I had ordered one a while back also.

WELL!!

Wasn't THAT 24 hour period special??

A new record has been set:

In the past five months-

48 test miles clocked before breakdown.
I'm glad it was at home, in the garage
and not 48 miles down the road with
the spare water pump sitting in my parts
bin at home.

Back to making repairs to DPO Pedro's
Crypt Car.

I am just a little bit disgusted tonight!

BLARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Dale - I can imagine how incredibly frustrated you must be but looking at this from a detached point of view it looks like you are making a lot of progress.

It may be progress that you were not expecting to have to make (that is to say that this was already sorted), but you ARE making a ton of progress.

How many Times do you have to be Biten by Snakes before you give up Handling Them, Dale?

Hhehehehhehehheheheeee

Cheers!

Hello Senor Dale
From Canada EH!
If you change the water pump, how many Pedro parts are left?
And if I come back, will Annie get a ride in this refurbished TR6? She likes red cars, you know. By the way, do I have to bring the two bikini babes I call daughters, or are you supplying ample views?
Dave (Graves---and I know we were at a funeral home, but it was purely coincidental. REALLY!!)

Hey Cuz, a suggestion. Spin the replacement water pump a number of times by hand before installation. Moss used to recommend spinning by an electric drill for a few seconds, to "seat" the seal. I've found just spinning by hand a signifigant number of revolutions will do the trick. Course gotta remember that this was from Moss recommendation in the catalog back in about 87.

Is anybody confused with Clapton's comments & assessments on Dale's Crypt Car yet???

Dale, You might want to make an Introduction, Bud /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Cheers!

And was probably true way back when water pumps used carbon seals. That hasn't been the case for a very long time. Just swap it in. No big deal, just 3 bolts, and fill her up. Lets roll!
