-> "mindlessness"

Hit the nail on the head. Total lack of responsibility toward others, mixed with a "let's have fun at all costs", and a healthy dose of "destroying things gives us a sense of power".

Yep - mindlessness. Has existed since the dawn of time. As cities become more and more crowded, as a sense of hope and purpose dwindles, as society continues to imply that "success = material possessions" - mindlessness prevails.

Tom

I agree with most of that - except I don't equate material success with mindlessness (except in cases where material success wasn't hard earned). I could get all philosophical, but I'll just say that we agree on the total lack of responsibility being at the root of it.

Going out on a limb here, I suspect copious amounts of alcohol may be involved.

wouldn't happen in Toronto as we are used to having losing teams here :rolleyes:

Just a symptom. The disease is global.

Yep, and the more press it gets, the more it's gonna spread. :frown:

You'd think the press would have more important things to do...like ...naw, never mind, it'd be breaking my own rules.

And we'd hate to see you have to ban yourself

Back on topic again (did I say that

One report on the news is about one protestor who is an aspiring water polo athlete who was to start training with the national team in the fall, he is now suspended from the team... He was identified on a video trying to light a police car on fire, apparently he was quoted as saying that he just simply got caught up in the emotion and did something rather dumb that will cost him dearly...

And on a lighter note, a photo I wish I would have taken :wink: Follow the link Alright so I was nowhere near Vancouver in rather boring Calgary... Nothing exciting ever happens here...

IMHO the "riots" had nothing to do with Hockey (the sore losers in the stands that booed the Bruins throughout the awards ceremonies is another thing). A certain low-life subset of the population pulled similar antics during the Olympics.

The king: "They certainly ARE."
