Hooked up jumper cables backwards :[

So when jumping my Midget a while back, the "jumper" (I being the "jumpee") hooked up the cables backwards. Smoke started coming out of the alternator I'm pretty sure - I was in the car turning it over. We pulled the cables fast, but still was able to get it going once we reversed them.

Ever since then, the charge light is on and stays on. The car seems to run fine, but twice now after a week or two, I'll come out to a very week battery. I put my charger on it and I'm good to go, until the next "weak in a week" comes along.

So...

Replace the alternator?
Replace something else?
A fuse somewhere that "protected" me?

:iagree: Your alternator is - - -

Ah sigh, that was my guess. Just didn't want to go out and fork over the $ until I knew.

So the tough thing is, I see the new iPhone is only $200. Alternator, or iPhone... :^)

With the way they are dropping the price on the Iphone if you can wait a year they will be free once you sign you life away for 2 years

:iagree: Buy a box o' CrackerJack, get a free iPhone, mebbe a 4Gig thumb drive, Terrabyte SATA hard drive... Moore's Law in action!

I'd LOVE to see the place in another fifty years (as long as it ain't a radioactive cinder).
