TR6 Hood Release on TR6

Thats right. The secondary catch is the lever next to the spring plunger. The latch will bend just from normal use and have been bent back into position repeatedly. The more you use it the more often it bends and eventually breaks off leaving only the plunger. It was/is a flimsy design.

I too understand the redundancy of having a safety catch on a front hinged bonnet.
Am enjoying all the other discussions on this site, as I'm picking up all sorts of hints for my project, and now that I have the bonnet open again, I can get to work.

On a TR6, it's not really necessary. I have a friend with a fiberglass hood on his TR6, and he doesn't have a catch of any kind on it. It just lays closed by gravity. He says at speeds around 140, the hood starts to lift a little, but below that, no problem (he has a 350-375 HP Chevy V8 in it, so yes, he can get it up to 140).
 
Many a TR4 desert driver has been known to pop the hood at speed to get more air moving past the engine.

I don't think my hood would lift at 140 but I would probably have a 'laundry problem' anyway.
