hood pin removal

okay, so i am getting the tub ready for blasting and paint. i want to remove the hood pin (the piece that latches the hood to the tub). it's the pin that has the heavy spring on it. anyway, i can't get this thing off the hood. i tried heat and pb blaster. it's hard to get pliers on it as well due to the spring. any thoughts?

A thin wrench on that jamb nut. Also the end of the pin should be slotted for a big screwdriver.

i was concerned that if i put enough force on that slot that it would bend or break off. maybe some more pb. i did manage to loosen the jam nut but the pin threads are frozen to the hood. i was thinking of cutting the spring off to get a better grip on the pin.

Give the penetrating oil time to work. And you might try a pair of needle nose vise grips.

I hate to admit it but I have been known to use Vice-grips on the biggest part of that "bolt" to free it up. Never lost yet.

PS: that is AFTER soaking it in PB.

sometimes turning them in a half turn first works
