TR4/4A Hood Buffers TR4

I bought some Xtra hood buffers. Are they an "as needed" item, or are the stock locations all that is needed.

Those of you with TR4s may know of the empty, sick feeling of hearing your hood (bonnet) rattling and being tossed about on washboard roads.

Will more hood buffers help avoid that problem? Can I just add a couple?

thx

P.S. It would appear I'd have to drill into the inner fender lip to install them.

KVH, you may need to adjust the cones at the rear, as these have more control of the rattling than the hood buffers. Don't forget to add some grease or Vaseline to the cone and the hole they fit into.

I can't recall having this issue. I agree with Wayne that you should first make sure your cone buffers are adjusted properly. You should just need the standard 4 wedge buffers on the sides. I don't think you should add any more.

You might want to check out your hood hinges. If you are getting that much movement in the hood they may need to be replaced.

And, of course, though the subject line says 'TR4 Buffers' you are talking about TR4A buffers which were quite different (cones on the 4A vs the flat style on all but the very late the '4s).

I agree that a properly adjusted bonnet does not need extra buffers.

Interestingly, the TR4 bonnet buffer is the same part as the torque reaction buffer on the TR4 engine.
