Hood Buffers Installation

After 2 months, I am about ready to get my BJ8 back from the painters. Finally. They have flat sanded the clear coat and are finishing the polishing today along with hanging the fenders and doors back on the body. Question--I ordered new buffers, copper rivets and washers for the front shroud/hood. I need to put a hole for the rivets in the buffers, but I can't remember exactly how they get installed on the shroud. I believe the rivet goes through the buffer from the outside of the buffer (but the side that is closest to the engine), then through the shroud (again from the engine side), then the copper washer goes on and the rivet separated. This way the lip of the hood (bonnet, you purists) does not touch the rivet when closed. Anyway, is that the correct way? Thanks.

You are right on except that the washer goes under the rivet head. No washer on the rivet split side. To be completely correct, the washers are steel.

Thanks Dave,
Moss sent me washers that are copper, 325-770. Since I am not going for concours, I will use them. It was very difficult to determine how everything went together from their catalog. The body shop removed the old ones so I couldn't remember. I guess I violated rule #1, Take lots of pictures of everything. I will probably have a few more questions as I get to put all the bright work, lights, reflectors, etc. back on.

Hi Shorn, I don't know what Moss sent you,but you might try a bit of sandpaper to the washers and rivets and see if they are not like the original parts-"copper plated steel"---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif-OH!,just put a magnet to em. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
