I didn't read anything disrespectful in that article. It seems to me that it was the US Government that was disrespectful. Waiting thirty-four years and forty years to upgrade those mens' medals to the CMOH.
 
Not the article Walter, the media waiting over 30 years before it was brought to light, why did it take so long? It wasn't a secret mission.

You could ask the same question about other medals/recognition issued posthumously as the White house over the years has held ceremonies of others too. I think it's not so much disrespect as the fact that news is more geared towards the here and now and not the past. I'd say just be glad that sooner or later what's deserved can catch up.

Just a pet peeve of mine is seeing CMOH recipients described as Medal of Honor "Winners," as in that Snopes article at the top of the page. The CMOH is not something that is won, it is something that is earned. Back in the day, when I was in Squadron Officers' School (SOS), they had a MOH Symposium where I had the honor of meeting a few CMOH recipients. Here's a print I picked up at the symposium that is signed by three MOH recipients, Col Bud Day, Bernard P Fisher, and James P Fleming. As it happens, I had met then Major Fisher before back when I was in Boy Scouts in Germany. He had come to our troop to give a talk.

Interesting thread - and I mean that truthfully, I'm learning something with every post. Thank you.

All I'll say about the media: it is a for-profit enterprise, and it publishes what people are willing to pay for. Lady Diana captured headlines from Mother Teresa 30 years ago. I'm the nutcase on my block that still pays for a daily newspaper even though I don't read much of it - because I think paying for reporters on the streets is better than free news from "the internet".
 
For as long as papers last, not the same content or amounts as when I was young. Not to mention the cost. I still get the Sunday but it isn't as national or international as it used to be. Weekdays are primarily local interest anymore, not actual news.
 
I would *so much* like to have paper subscriptions to regional and "national" newspapers. But the subscription prices have skyrocketed, the actual news content has dwindled, and subscriptions are full of surprises, extra charges, mandatory automatic renewals, and required extra-cost "bonus" issues that promote luxury items.

Who on earth can afford ocean cruises, big name clothing, motorhomes, cabins in the mountains, time-shares in Europe, etc. which is often the focus of the bonus issues. So I stay with online subscriptions (Hartford Courant, NYT, Chicago Tribune, LA Times, plus papers in France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Israel, Qatar, etc.)

I'll bet many of us remember the days when experienced, trained, educated journalists - not Ted Baxters - supplied the media outlets.

For me it was a delivery issue. When I was in high school I delivered the evening paper - we had a morning and an evening, combined on Sunday back then. The paper went between the door and the screen/storm door or on the floor of the enclosed porch. Here in Indy, the newspaper used to provide a yellow tube that you attached to the mailbox post. Delivery was done by adult in a car. The adult final decided that was too hard and started putting them in plastic bags and throwing them on the driveway. A couple phone calls to the newspaper didn't improve the service. So that was it.

One winter I was doing neighbors driveways with my snowblower. On the way back to the house, the snowblower sucked up a newspaper that apparently didn't get thrown far enough up a driveway - it had be deposited in the snow bank by the snow plow. Had to take the snowblower apart to get the newspaper out.

I still subscribe to the local paper.When they raised it,I continued to
subscribe.Then they sent me a letter saying that it was going up by 50%.
I called and cancelled it.
A week or two later,I got a call from the paper asking me to resubscribe,
& the price was even less than I was paying before.
I enjoy sitting down & reading the paper with my morning coffee before
I go to work,& go to a couple of restaurants that let me sit & drink coffee &
read the paper before I order breakfast.

we still have one - don't get the paper though. I am actually pondering pulling the newspaper box out and pitching it
