Holes in rear shroud-BJ7?

In the rear shroud of my BJ7, center-line, at the left of the grommet hole for license plate lamp there are 4 holes at equidistant points of a square approx 4" apart. Does anyone know what is the purpose of these holes?

robert, those are the lucas smoke relief valves. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif just kidding, looked at my bj7. it doesnt have them, that doesnt mean they shouldnt be there. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif
