TR2/3/3A Hole in Rear Hub

I have to replace the rear hubs in my 3A due to warpage from improper half shaft removal with a hydraulic press (not by me). Does anyone know the purpose of the 1/4" hole that is located behind the oil seal? Got replacements from Rimmer's that do not have the hole, and would like to know if this may result in future problems.
 
Perhaps the threaded hole for the grease fitting.

It is not the hole for the grease fitting. It goes directly from the outside of the hub to the backside of the oil seal on the bearing housing (see pictures below). Not sure what it is for, unless it was somehow used for removal/installation.

It takes a screw to hold the brake drums? At least that is what it looks like to me?!?
 
The brake drums uses the two opposing threaded holes between the studs. There is a third hole on the inner portion of the hub that is not threaded. That is what I'm referring to.
 
It could be a tooling hole. A hole that is used to ensure the hub is mounted correctly on the machine that cuts the Key way and threads the stud holes.

Just checked my pictures of the original hubs on my TR3A. They do have the same hole, but nothing was in them, on them or around them. Completely unused. Could be one of the mysteries of life...unless maybe the "Churchill" hub puller used it for reference.
