Thanks... will let you know, but of course it won't happen until the spring. My grandkids live not to far from you in Somerville.
I getting ready to build "rocket ship" #2.... they each have to have one!
 
When in grade school - slot cars, model rockets. Later, in early Junior High we lived in Germany and was in Boy Scouts and did a lot of camping and exploring and bought my first electric guitar. Back in the states in later Junior High snd High School I got heavily into CB radio.
 
In 1965 I was a Commercial fisherman in Alaska ( the cook and deck hand ) Southeast Alaska. We spent the night tided up at Lincoln Rock Light Station a Coastguard light house. Four Coast Guardsmen on a rock 10 plus miles off the coast. Years earlier some one sent a car model to one of the men by 1965 they had 100 or more either built in in boxes. These men did 16 on 8 off. 8hr radio watch 8hr doing their MOS on the light station. It was one year duty. I would be there today with a boat if not for the Draft and Nam. I think models kept them sane. Madflyer

Note I looked up the lighthouse and it was closed in 1968 and just the light remains.

Mayflyer, I did that type duty for two years except I was on lighthouse with only one other guardsman. Three were assigned to the lights but only two were on at any time. Two weeks on one week off on liberty. Nice duty but it did get boring about 2 in the morning. Had 3 gennys, 2 air compressors for the fog horn, two boilers for heat and hotwater. Supplies delivered every Wed, weather permitting. Winter could be problems with ice and storms on the ocean.
 
Not my story, my nephew's. (In his early 20's now) About 8 years ago he was in the top 6 under 18 years old triathletes in the country. He was racing in Dallas and crashed. No permanent damage but, in the course of treatment they discovered he had mono but, he was so fit that no one knew - so some time off to rest. Was back home, biking again and crashed again, so a little more rest. Then all of a sudden he discovered girls. Never raced again. :grin:

Funny how nostalgic we are for these hobbies, completely forgetting the reason most of us gave them up. :grin:

Started building the model cars, and rifle competitions, then real cars and collecting arms after the Marines. Then back to British cars, fishing and boating. Now, I still do Briitsh cars and fishing now with RV as tow vehicle. So basically more maintenance than build.
 
They had four Cat Generators with two on line one stand buy and one being serviced. We pulled in after being fishing for a month straight for a shower and solid ground. We had a cannery boat pick up our fish and bring fresh food and coffee. I could go ashore to kill a deer you can not eat fish day in day out. also got clams and crabs if we holding up due to weather a day or so. I was 19 and life was good HO and yes I am a good cook.

My best friend from my CB radio days is still heavily involved in CB and Ham radio to this day. I ended up drifting away from it when I joined the Air Force - they wouldn't let me mount an antenna on the barracks! LOL!

I built many a model car, plane, and ship as a kid. Last fall while I was laid up in bed I ordered a model of the Graf Spee but wound up not building it, I'll need to get around to it sometime. Now my hobbies include working on cars, watches and clocks, and guns.

While those are cool, I don't want a machine I'd have to walk everyday.

We had something like that back in Humboldt County (CA),
the Kinetic Sculpture race.
And Doc,they even had a RUTABAGA QUEEN!
