Doug - I remember when you first got it. It met your needs!

Congratulations to you, and to the Dakota!

Way to go Doug! I always like it when I get to notice these little milestones. I missed 200k in the Miata when it rolled over about eighteen months ago. I am going to try to catch it for 300k in a few more years.

I had a 95' Dakota that I bought new. Although I did not like the vehicle, I drove it 198,000 + miles, and it was still running when I sold it. Mine was the 2.5 4-cylinder version. I always had cylinder head gasket & thermostat problems with it, and the rear axle howled constantly all the time I owned it. I think I put 2-3 clutches in it during my ownership. I thought, at the time it would be a good replacement for the Mitsubishi built Dodge D-50 I had previously. I sold it, in running order at 230,00 miles. I used both these trucks in heavy commuter duly to my jobs in the Los Angeles area traffic. The D-50 held up a lot better under the abuse and was in much better shape in the end. Too bad they do not make the little D-50 anymore. ...J.D.

That's a lot of weight for a 4 cylinder to haul around.
I have a 318,& it gets up & moves decently,& only gets
a couple of miles per gallon less than the 2WD V6 that
I had.

Yeh... i don't think the 4-Cylinder was the best decision either. A friend and co-worker had one with the V-8 at the same time. He got good service out of his. We were both in the same trade. These trucks worked well for getting in and out of underground parking in the big city areas. We were both maintenance engineers in high-rise office buildings. Dodge replaced the sturdy little D-50 with the Dakoda in the 90's some time, but the 4-cylinder engine was not the same quality. as the Mitsubishi 2 liter four. My co-worker and I both had property outside the city and needed a truck for those places. I later added a small Mitsubishi coupe to my fleet, for the commute and left the truck at home. The job only required room for a tool bag and a brief case anyhow. You live and learn. ... J.D.
