Hiring a classic in the UK - whoo hoo

So how cool is this? I have to be in the UK soon and will have a weekend layover, so I pitched the guys I've traveling with on hiring a couple classic cars (I don't know, maybe a Triumph since I hear they are neat) and doing a weekend tour. They just said yes. Sweet.

Now, anyone done this or have any ideas for me on how to get started more effectively than Google?

Tom
I think there was an article about that very thing in the Moss mag at the beginning of summer.
Paul
P.S.
Will you be bringing back a suitcase of parts?

Grab a copy of Practical Classics... they always have advertisers for hiring classic cars.

Thanks for the info guys,

We're going to be in Cheltenham, and I found these guys quite near by which helps the logistics;

Looks like we're going to "end up" with this;

Hope it doesn't ruin me!

Any ideas on a two day touring schedule from there?

Thanks!

Tom-

Have you visited the British Motor Heritage Place at Gaydon yet? Thats only about 40 miles away from Cheltenham. Plenty of stuff to see no matter what direction you take!

Touring England in an E-Type Jag? I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven!

Don't let that Jag get away from you, keep the shiny side up! :yesnod:

Some years ago I rented a car to drive around Ireland. Decided it wasn't to difficult till I came upon one of these things a few minutes from Shannon, had to pull over and study it for awhile.

At the time we didn't have roundabouts in Montana now we have them all over the place. All the traffic engineers must have gone to the same seminar.

LOL - I'm expecting to do the same Mark!

Cheltenham is very close to the place I was born, the other side of Gloucester in a little farming village on the River Severn.
There are many places to visit from there. Gaydon has been mentioned, not far from there is Stratford on Avon, Oxford is within easy strking distance and there are innumerable small towns and villages in the Cotswold hills. You could visit Northleach, just off the A40 between Cheltenham and Oxford.
If you're interested in birds, there's the Severn Wildfowl trust at Slimbridge, going south, or go further south to Bath, from where Stonehenge is easily accessible.
Or go west, towards Ross-on-Wye, and drive down the Wye valley to Chepstow, passing through Monmouth and the ruins of Tintern Abbey. Then you could come back across the Severn bridge.
Though I am naturally biased, it really is lovely countryside, and I get very nostalgic thinking about it!
The photo is of a pub on the river close to my birthplace. I was there back in the summer for lunch.
Anchor Inn, Epney, Gloucester.

When are you over in the UK? during the first weekend in October is the bi-annual round Britain Triumph run, it's a good chance to see over 100 Triumphs out on the road, more info here

Hi guys - back from the trip. A bit pressed for time now but flew back to Cal yesterday. Managed not to prang the Jag.

Y'all want pictures?

My guess is you'll be lookin' to get your current stable of Limey Limos converted to RHD.
You get enough attention with an old Brit Mobile over this side of the pond, multiply that by a factor of 3 with RHD.

dang it, I keep needing that :jealous: emoticon.

Memories for a lifetime.

well done.
