This is about my 1956 Austin Healey 100BN2. I believe I have a high torque starter from BritishStarter.com. It makes a grinding noise for a second after car starts like solenoid is slow to release. Any ideas? It was in car when I bought it 10 years ago. Moss has a WOSP unit for about $300. Thanks Marty

For what ever reason the pinion gear is not disengaging. Also, it is possible that there is a bad bearing. At any rate it bears pulling it and running it on the bench to see what it does or doesn't do. Be sure to clamp it to the bench securely lest it motor itself onto the floor. Might just need a little lubrication.

I hope a little oil is the answer. Thanks Marty

I removed starter but could not see a problem other than shaft might have had some side play. I found the paperwork on my existing High Torque starter. WWW.BritishStarters.com. As far as I can tell it was 14 years old so decided to replace it with same starter for $197.00 and free shipping. I went to Moss motors to see what they had. I was very disappointed in how they looked and cost was $290.00 plus shipping.

Maybe have someone local rebuild it.
