Well I seem to be running into too many darn problems lately. A new one has reared its head tonight -- a high pitched noise from the rear end - starting around 4000 RPM or 50MPH.

Kind of thinking diff - which was replaced last year (maybe its running low on fluid). Tranny (scares me) ?? Anything else or ideas ???

Backed off when I heard the noise. (afraid of going too fast ??)

u-joints, wheel bearings or pinion bearing are the most likely in my experience. Try greasing your u-joints & toping up axle oil before you worry too much. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think I am confused -- noise somehow was the alternator bracket. Snapped it in two places. Fabbed a new & improved one today and no more odd noise (that could lead to a whole sections of denials & jokes -- don't go there).

What has everyone else doe for "brackets" for the alternator (or have most remained stock with a generator) ???

i did a Bosch conversion on my 1500, Best thing i ever did. used all stock hardware. did have to relieve the alt bracket with a grinder just slightly.
