From the makers of the incomparable Cobra and sublime Ace:

The Invacar now available on UK e-bay.

70 mph backwards?

The Invacar was taken out of service once it became clear how dangerous it was.
It was, as its name suggests, an Invalid Carriage, made by AC to Ministry of Health specifications. It had a habit of fallin over, almost literally, its front wheel, had no protection to speak of and was very unsafe to drive.
It was cheaper and a sight safer to modify normal production cars for Invalids than sentence them to that contraption!

I believe Graham Hill was particularly effective in showing how unstable these were, and a danger to other road users too, besides the poor unfortunate drivers.

I'm kind of amazed that AC ever built the things too- they surely should have known better....

used to see them at all the football matches right beside the pitch

I am sure that it was MORE stable at 70mph in reverse than in forward!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
