High Oil Pressure

Now that my brake light switch problem is more or less resolved I need to dig a little deeper into another issue. My 100 has always idled with the oil pressure around 25 and would run up to 60 or slightly more on acceleration. A few weeks ago on a drive I noticed it was running in the 70-80 range and at idle it would read 50. I took it out a couple of days later and it was normal pressure. However that was short-lived as it is now back to the higher numbers.
I have done an oil and filter change and also changed the pressure relief valve and spring. The pressure remains high. I am thinking the gauge may be acting up but not sure what to check next.
